Background of the study
Hashtag campaigns have become central to digital political mobilization, especially on Twitter. In Nigeria, political movements leverage hashtag campaigns not only to rally support but also to reshape language practices, particularly syntax. The strategic use of hashtags in political discourse has led to the emergence of new syntactic structures, as users condense complex political messages into concise, impactful statements (Ibrahim, 2023). These campaigns utilize repetition, parallelism, and creative punctuation to forge a unified linguistic identity among supporters. This study examines how hashtag campaigns within Nigerian political movements influence syntactic patterns. It explores how these digital expressions challenge conventional syntactic norms and create new forms of sentence construction. By analyzing a corpus of political tweets, the research identifies the linguistic innovations that emerge from sustained hashtag usage and assesses their impact on broader language practices. This exploration of syntax in political hashtag campaigns offers insights into the interplay between digital activism and language evolution, illustrating how political engagement in online spaces can drive systematic changes in communication (Okafor, 2024). The findings are expected to contribute to both political communication studies and digital linguistics.
Statement of the problem
Although hashtag campaigns are widely used in Nigerian political discourse, their effect on syntax remains under-researched. Current studies focus on political mobilization and sentiment analysis, often neglecting the syntactic transformations that occur when political messages are conveyed via hashtags (Chukwu, 2023). This gap limits the understanding of how digital activism reshapes language structures and influences political discourse. Without detailed analysis, the contribution of hashtag-driven syntax to political messaging remains largely unexplored, hindering the development of comprehensive models of digital political communication (Adebayo, 2024).

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it bridges the gap between political communication and digital linguistics by examining how hashtag campaigns affect syntax in Nigerian political discourse. The insights will inform scholars, political analysts, and digital media strategists on the linguistic dimensions of digital activism (Ibrahim, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study
The study focuses solely on hashtag campaigns within Nigerian political movements on Twitter. It does not extend to other platforms or non-political hashtags, ensuring a focused examination of the specified phenomenon.
